Peer Assessment
In todays lesson we did a peer assessment. Two peers from my class assessed my film for strengths and weaknesses.
TITLES
STRENGTHS:
TITLES
STRENGTHS:
- They are in a professional order.
- On the black background they are very clear and stand out so you look at them.
- The way they move and are positioned on the screen make the audience more interested in them.
- Transitions are clear and simple so it reflects the Social Realism genre.
WEAKNESSES:
- The font doesn't look very professional.
- The audience feel obliged to read them, so maybe make them a bit quicker.
- The film name needs to stand out more - make this a different font to the others.
CINEMATOGRAPHY/EDITING
STRENGTHS:
- All props and costumes are basic, suits the social realism genre.
- Good range of shot types, in a good location.
- Varied angles are used.
- Good slow pace, puts across the genre well.
- Use of fades are very dominant.
WEAKNESSES:
- Her surroundings are a bit unclear.
- Not a wide rage of transitions.
- Lack of lighting makes some parts a bit unclear.
INTRODUCTIONS
STRENGTHS:
- Was simple yet portrayed everything that was needed for the main character.
- The location of a care home is effective.
- Very stereotypical of the genre.
- Many enigma codes are created - why does she owe money?
- Use of one character works well and portrays how she is alone.
WEAKNESSES:
- Her environment isn't very clear.
- Unclear idea of the care home, is it not a foster home - this is what it looks like.
SOUND:
STRENGTHS:
- Sound track is very suitable for the genre and suits the mood really well.
- The voice over is clear and clean.
- Audio levels seem to be heard well, and everything is clear.
WEAKNESSES:
- Some parts through feel a bit faster due to the soundtrack.
- Voice over seems a little low compared to soundtrack.
- Try fading out the soundtrack at the end.
final edit!
So this is my FINAL edit! I am very pleased with how it has turned out and the way it tells the audience of the genre straight away.
I have made the changes from my peer assessment that have made it look a lot more professional.

first edit for opening sequence!
I'm so glad that I have finally got a film! I was definitely unsure of the fact if I would actually finish or not, as I had all the trouble with the camera the day before the first edit deadline!
However, I did manage to get my first edit sorted and I'm very happy with how it has turned out so far. I will put my peer assessment up shortly, this peer assessment was very helpful and will help me to make suitable changes to my sequence.
There are a few things I need to change such as transitions, fonts, and size of texts.

Re-Filming
Unable to get my original film off the camera I have re-filmed everything!
I have had to use a new actress, and her profile will be posted soon. I used my friend from my old school, Amy Warwick, as she was available all weekend and has a GCSE in drama! Fortunately, as I knew what I wanted, we were able to film very quickly making some relevant changes from my original idea.
CHANGES FROM MY ORIGINAL TWO MINUTE OPENING SEQUENCE:
Original Idea: Beth's mum had died, so she was living with an uncaring uncle.
Changed Idea: Beth's mum has died, so she is now in a children's home.
Reason: This was because we filmed at Amy's house, however she has a large house with a big family... so it was more relevant to change the idea of a small house with an uncaring uncle to a large house as a children's home.
Original Idea: Beth would walk past a group of people from her school, and they would laugh at her and make comments about how she looks.
Changed Idea: Beth now doesn't walk past them! This will hopefully make the audience realise how isolated she actually is.
Reason: I was unable to get actors to for fill these roles at such short notice.
Original Idea: Beth would get a phone call from Niall demanding her money.
Changed Idea: Beth doesn't get this phone call, just gets the text later on.
Reason: I don't have enough time in my two minutes to fit this all in.

The editing process
Finally been able to start my editing process now that I have finished re-filming!
The only other experience I have had with editing is the preliminary task we did, so I'm not very confident with it. However, so far, with the help of some of my peers it seems to be going quite well and fairly quick too!
25/1/12
Today I've been putting my music back onto final cut, as I had a few problems with it before.
I wasn't very clever, and I had put my film over the top of my garage band music for the opening sequence. Meaning when I put that into final cut, it went silly! Every time I wanted to cut some film out it would cut that part of my backing track out too... not good! So to solve this I just took out the whole backing track off final cut and put it back in separately.
My friend Siobhan has done my voice over and I am currently editing that into my film.

PLAN B
MORE PROBLEMS
Unfortunately, the lead that plugs the camera into the computer to transfer the film, doesn't work. The camera has a very odd design where you have to take the battery out to put in the cable to the computer, which is unhelpful as you need to turn the camera on.
I am planning another production schedule for this weekend incase I can't get the stuff I have already filmed off the camera...

TITLES
I have finished making most of my titles for my opening sequence. The only one I have yet to make it the film name title, as I haven't yet decided on a name.

FILM NAME
I have decided on a film name - BETH.
It is simple, suiting my theme of a social realism. My main character is called Beth and this is where the name has come from.

Camera issues
My actress, Siobhan, kindly let me use her camera for filming. However, we are having some difficulties with getting the footage onto the computer.
In todays lesson we found a cable that fitted the camera and the computer, although in order to fit the cable into the camera the battery has to be taken out... not very helpful! So to use this cable we have to get the power cable. When we started filming we never thought that it would be very sensible to insert and SD card and film onto that. So tonight I will try to swap the footage from the Camera's memory to an SD card without deleting everything...
Siobhan is currently looking at home for the power cable so next lesson I will be able to start editing!
